A trailer tent is a great option for the many people that love the outdoors but don’t like the idea of “roughing it.  They might think it’s beautiful or they want to spend the day by the lake, but thoughts of camping on the ground send any thoughts of camping fleeting away faster than the thoughts of going came.  If you are one of those people you should consider getting a trailer tent for you and your family.

So you’re wondering why exactly you should get a tent trailer?  Well, the first advantage to having one is that when you go for a weekend outdoors you don’t have to sleep directly on the ground.  You are elevated off the ground so if some unexpected weather arises you won’t find out too late that you pitched your tent where all the water collects! Not only will you not have to sleep on the ground but they often come with a swing up table so that you can have a place to set a plate while eating or maybe even play cards.   Also, these are relatively easy to set up.  Some take only a few minutes while others take a little more effort.  It’s all going to depend on which one you get.  You can often find one with strong durable canvas that is made to be mildew resistant and water resistant.
Another nice thing about these is that they are smaller and a lot more portable than RV’s or other trailers including most pop up campers.  They fold down conveniently and take up much less space.  They are also pretty lightweight making it easy to hook up to your trailer hitch on the back of your SUV or truck and head out on the road.  When you aren’t using it, it folds down compactly and is much easier to store.  You can also find these trailers with the convenient feature of folding underneath another area so that you can store ATV’s or canoes if you are bringing them along too.

Sounds great doesn’t it?  It’s not without its drawbacks. Unfortunately these cost a lot more than cheap tents.   They also are going to take up more space and aren’t going to be able to be taken to a hike in campsite.  While they might take up less space than an RV they still are going to require more storage area than tents. They also aren’t going to have as much as space as that bigger RV.  Obviously, you are going to need a hitch of some sort to transport it with you and a vehicle that can handle towing the weight.

Trailer tents can help put your mind at ease about some of the concerns you might have about camping.  Another great thing is that if you are having a hard time convincing your wife or girlfriend to go camping with you, she might be less reluctant to come if she thinks she doesn’t have to sleep on the ground!

While I have mainly been talking about small compact trailers that turn into a fairly simple tent, tent trailers can also be more like a pop up camper.  These are going to be even more expensive but come with a lot more options and feel a lot more like home.

If you are still interested in purchasing a trailer tent you are going to have plenty of options.  Here are a few:
1.Jumping Jack Tent Trailer – This is a great option.  It allows you to carry those ATV’s over the top while the tent is folded down.  It can sleep up to 6 people, has a swing up table and is made out of marine canvas that is double stitched to help prevent leaks.  You can also purchase a half bed extension that allows you to make one or two double beds or a couch.

2.Coleman Camping Trailers- Coleman is a well trusted camping brand.  They too offer some camping trailers however, these are more like full blown pop up trailers.  So they are going to be more expensive but have a lot more of the bells and whistles.

3.Jayco is another brand that offers a lot of camping trailers.  They are also a little bigger than a basic trailer tent and will start around $7,000.

4. Quicksilver by Living lite is another great option for the small trailer tents from Canada.  In fact, they say their products are designed for smaller cars.  These are very similar to the jumping jack trailer and they will give you some great options including a privacy screen and a rear storage deck where you can put things like a camping stove or ice chest.  At an extra charge they also have a convenience package that includes a propane stove, first aid kit, an extra aluminum table and an electric heater.  That sounds like a great package for those still thinking about getting one so their wives will go with them!
