Coleman Tents At Target

The Coleman Instant Tent is one of the quickest tents to set up and usually takes a couple of minutes to set up so you can get back to enjoying anything but setting up the tent. The instant tent comes in lots of different sizes but Target usually has the 6 man tent and the 8 man tent in stores. These are great family tents and offer a lot of room.
They also have the Coleman Hampton 9 man tent for those looking for a spacious family tent. These tents will cost anywhere between $100 and $140.
If you don’t want to try a cabin tent you might want to consider the Coleman Ara. It is a 6 man dome tent that is under $100. It comes with a rain fly and it is pretty easy to set up with a color coded tent pole system.
If you want a smaller tent they also have a couple of models of the Coleman Sundome to choose from like the 2 man tent, which remains one of their most popular models. It is inexpensive and just under $50.
Target has a couple of Tents by Embark. This week’s main advertised deal is the Embark 9 Person Cabin tent with a screened porch and it is at a great price, $114.95. It usually takes about 20 minutes to set up. Although it comes with a rainfly it doesn’t offer your tent full protection as it does not go down all the sides. You probably should test it out at home with the sprinklers or hose and see if the rainfly will keep the water out. If not, just find a cheap tarp to put over it for a little more protection.
Many of these are similar to tents at Walmart and you can also purchase many of them at Amazon with free shipping and no sales tax if you don’t need it as quickly.

The Instant Tents also come equipped with the Coleman WeatherTec system which they guarantee will keep you dry.  Many users have camped in storms in these tents and have confirmed that it has kept them dry.  Another thing that makes this tent unique is that it comes with the tent fully taped, which means there is no need for a rainfly.  Just to be safe you might want to bring a tarp with you and do a pretest at home.  Just set the tent up at home before you hit the campground, let the sprinklers hit it or even a hose and see if there are in tiny holes that need to be double sealed.  This can save you from a big headache when you get to your campground.
These are fairly cheap tents and can be found pretty easily.  I’ve seen them at the big warehouse stores like Sam’s Club.  You can also find a 2 room 10 man version of the Instant tent at Bass Pro Shops. You can also find them at Amazon following this link. Enough cannot be said about Coleman Tents.  They have become an authority in camping tents and a brand your family can trust.

Other tents you might be interested in are the Coleman Vacationer Tent and the Coleman Weathermaster.  They do not set up as quickly as this model but they are both big and the Vacationer comes with their new lighting system which features a light switch in your tent.

The power system is not the only thing that will make you feel at home in this tent. Timberline Series-
The timberline has two particular models the timberline outfitter which offers a 2 man tent, 4 man tent and a 6 man tent or the Timberline SQ which has a 2 man and a 4 man tent available. 
Both models are A Frame tents and very lightweight making them an ideal tent for backpacking.  They come with a rain fly that covers the entire body and allows windows to be kept it partially open even when it is raining which helps enable good ventilation and keeps it from getting to stuffy.

Copper Canyon Series-
The Eureka Copper Canyon tents are large camping tents.  They sleep anywhere from 8 -12 people and they have a variety of floor plans.  The classic copper canyon just provides lots of space for sleeping.  The other tents are made to be cabin tents which you can set up a divide curtain to create two rooms or take the curtain down to just have 1 large living space.  The Copper Canyon 1610 even has a sunroom or you can go for the Copper Canyon 1512 tent that comes with an awning so you can set your camping chairs out their and enjoy the scenery.  These tents aren’t lightweight and all weigh around 40 pounds.   It includes 6 large tents that help increase the air flow inside the tent.

Forte SQ Series-
The Eureka Forte SQ series is designed to be a light 3 season tent.  It is made as an a frame tent with a spreader pole congifuration.  It has a sleek close fitting fly to cover your tent and helping to keep the rain outside.  You can also purchase a footprint separately.  These aren’t going to fit a lot of campers as they are only designed to be a 2 man tent.

Grand Manan Series-
With the regular Eureka Grand Manan tents you can sleep anywhere between 3-5 campers depending on whether you get the Grand Manan 7 or the Grand Manan 9 models.   These are small sleek tents that are designed to maximize the amount of headroom and the amount of room in the overall tent so that you can bring an air bed or air mattress with you.  They also feature lots of ventilation and 8 different pockets where you can store your stuff.
The Eureka Grand Manan Tour tent takes it up one more level.  It is a 6 man tent that is designed to be bug free and for all weather.    It also allows you to set up the E! power system from Eureka which allows you to add power to your tent!  This is a very nice feature to have.

N!ergy Series-

Suite V Series-

Sunrise Series-

First things first, what makes a tent properly equipped to handle the weather?

1. It has a proper rain fly. This is a rain fly that covers the entire top part of the tent, as well, as its sides. There is no point in having it cover the top of the tent if the wind is blowing the rain sideways because the rain can get in through the sides.
2. Make sure you have a good footprint. Many tents come with one or at least have one made specifically for certain models if you pay a little bit more for it. However, you can also use a groundtarp. But you want to make sure you don’t let it hang all the way around the outside of the tent. Instead make sure it is barely smaller than the floor of your tent.
3. Sealed Seams- This is often done by the manufacturers but you can buy some cheap and easily coat it a second time.

Alright, enough with the short review… cabin tents are multi-room tents that are great for a lot of reasons, but they are also great to ride out a storm in. Let’s use an example here.

Example # 1: You have a camping group of 4 so you buy a 4 man tent thinking that it is the most logical tent size for your group. When you get to your campsite you realize there is hardly enough room for all 4 of you and your gear is barely fitting inside the tent. Then, out of nowhere, a storm rolls in. You are left to ride it out in your tent or just pack it up and go home. You are determined to have a great trip so you stick it out, but you are all piled into the 4 man tent like a can of sardines. The tent isn’t even tall enough to stand up in and making yourself comfortable is next to impossible.

Example # 2: Even though you only have a group of 4 you decide to bring a cabin tent or a really big tent like the Swiss Gear Montreaux 10 Person Tent. You thought it would be great to have space for all of your gear and bring some air mattresses and what not. This particular tent has 3 rooms because you thought you might want to spread out a little more. So when the storm clouds roll in, they don’t seem nearly as dreadful as in the first example. Your tent becomes a small little home. You have room to stand up in, move around in it, eat, and play games or whatever else you can do to pass the time. With a larger tent you can now still enjoy your camping trip and bonding time while you wait for the storm to roll through.

Which example would you like to be in the 1st or the 2nd? When it comes to braving the weather, a larger tent might have more of an advantage simply because you won’t go absolutely stir crazy – at least not as stir crazy as you would in that smaller tent! You are still confined to a small space but you are going to be a lot more comfortable in it. It is inevitable that we aren’t always going to go camping where the weather is always perfect – especially if you go in the mountains in the fall or spring, and knowing the weather conditions should be part of your preparation when you go camping. You have to know how you are going to handle it if the weather turns sour and if you are going to be up to riding a storm out. Let me leave you with this question to think about before your next camping trip: What size tent would you need to be comfortable if you were forced to be in it for a couple of days, a large camping tent or a small camping tent?

Another feature that they used to help keep the weight down was to design it with 3 sides instead of 4 so that it could eliminate more of the weight that added poles and material would bring to the tent.

According to backpacker magazine most of the reviewers found this tent to be an adequate size for two campers allowing them room to sit up and even play some games when you are in the tent for the night. While you aren’t going to have enough room to stand up, it is only 38 inches high, this is definitely a lot roomier than some of the other ultralight tent options you have out there. The floor area is 28 square feet and the vestibule area is 7 square feet.

One other great feature that this tent has is a reflective guyline and tent corners so that you can see it better at night. Anyone who has tripped over the guylines in the middle of the night can understand what a valuable feature this can be. This door has only 1 entryway but most campers won’t have much of an issue with it.
Big Agnes also has a tent footprint designed specifically for the Big Agnes Fly Creek UL 2 Tent – 2010 unfortunately, you need to buy this separately but it is well worth the investment. While the tent is made with top notch materials you definitely don’t want to go without a footprint since camping outdoors proves just how unpredictable mother nature is and it will help keep water from building up from underneath the tent.
Both Big Agnes and Backpacker Magazine are both leaders in the industry and aren’t going to lead you astray. The Fly Creek 2 man tent isn’t the cheapest tent but you can trust that it was made to do, which is to be a lightweight tent that sleeps 2 people and keeps both the elements and the bugs out.

When you are out camping in a tent the weather can affect your experience in a lot of ways and like the coleman weathermaster this one has quite a few features to keep you dry, out of the wind and provides lots of ventilation so the tent isn’t completely muggy all night.  So lets talk about these features real quick.  First, the bathtub floors keeps a lot of the water from getting inside, but remember a tent footprint will help it from seeping up through the bottom of the floor.  Next it comes with a polyester double-coated rainfly to protect the top of the tent and to stop the rain water from getting in.  This tent is made for maximum air circulation and it does that by having one of the walls made out of mesh, so you can enjoy a nice cool, or warm night and catch any breezes that might come in.  This is great and you  might not need to bring that tent fan along with you, although I always recommend one for summer camping.  Also, it allows you to take in the view of the sky that the city lights so often block.  The other walls are then made with weatherproof polyester material.  It also has a factory durable water repellant applied to the outer walls of the tent.  Of course, always be careful with what manufacturers offer with their tents.  One way to protect yourself is to get some seam sealer and just add some extra protection, although this tent boasts double seams, I can’t personally vouch for it. However, most of the reviews I have read have said it has held up and stayed dry in the rain.

 Another weatherproof feature are the two guy points that allow you to tie the tent down to so when the wind picks up and starts blowing hard, your tent isn’t going to go with it.

Due to how light this tent is it makes a great tent that backpackers can take with them.  Most of the complaints that come with this tent is that people have felt the tent poles are a little cheaper made than they would like but they have held up.   Also, if you are REALLY tall, this might not be the best choice for you.  The center is only 43.5 inches so this isn’t a tent anyone could really expect to stand up in.

So where can you buy a canvas tent?

Canvas tents can be found almost anywhere but remember they will be a little pricier.  A good place to start looking is an outdoor store like Cabela’s or REI.  These stores will have a few more options than the more general stores.  Also, they know what you are going to use your tent for so Cabelas tents or any other store selling outdoor gear, are geared for what you need them for, they know you aren’t just as casual camper.  Maybe you want a good hunting tent that is going to be more than a place to sleep or to set it up as a base camp.  Canvas tents can do this and you will often find them able to accommodate a camp stove so your tent now becomes not just a place to sleep but a place to live.  If you go hunting for long lengths of time you know how important it is to have a tent that can provide you with a base camp.

The Cabela’s Outfitter’s  Canvas Wall Tent with Sewn- In Floor-  This tent comes in about 5 different sizes depending on how big of one you want.  The price will range from 999 to 1499 so be prepared to pay a lot for these tents.  The floor is sewn in so if you are camping in an area with snakes or other creatures it is a great way to keep them out and not worry about them getting inside.  They are made to be fire retardant and water and mildew resistant making this a good canvas tent choice.  This also has a place built in to place that camping stove which helps keep it warm in the cold winter months!

Cabela’s Outfitters’ Canvas Tent- This is the same tent as above and works just as well, the only difference is that the floor isn’t sewn in so you might get a couple of critters trying to keep warm in the tent with you.  The main advantage is that this will be a couple hundred dollars less than the one that has the floor sewn in.

Kodiak Canvas Cabin Tent With Awning-
The Kodiak Canvas tent costs around $550.    It’s a 6 man tent and comes with an awning and an enclosed screened off room to keep the bugs out.  It comes with 5 windows which will help to improve the overall airflow of the tent if it starts to get a little warm inside.  For those who don’t realize how much weight a canvas tent can weigh this tent is 118 pounds!  So be prepared to have a way to get this tent to and from your campsite and set up.  It is made to be watertight and puncture resistant.  Bottomline:  This is a great more affordable canvas tent.

Kodiak Flex Bow Tent-
This tent is another inexpensive option for large canvas tents and comes in 2 different sizes.  Both sizes are large and one is a 6 man tent and the other is an 8 man tent.  This is quite a bit lighter with both options under 80 pounds.  The 6 man tent weighs 69 pounds.  It comes with an attached awning, 4 windows and 2 doors.  This is definitely an option that will help cool down your warm cotton tent.  It will easily fit some tent cots and still have plenty of space left over.

6 man tents can be perfect as a 4 man tent and will provide you some extra room to feel more comfortable in. 

Coleman Sundome 6 Tent-

This 2 room affordable tent by Coleman has a center height of six feet and comes with a  12×10 rainfly. This tent is normally a screened tent so unless you have the rain fly on you aren’t going to get any protection. This is a great tent for beginners as it is easy to set up with its color coded tent poles.  Unlike most tents this one comes with an integrated light system!!  I think that has to be its main selling point.  It is a light that is good enough to be able to read while you’re in your tent at night and is controlled with a remote control that can be used up to fifty feet away.  A battery pack allows for up to 16 hours of light usage on low or 12-14 when powered high.  It also comes with negative angle windows that allow you to keep the windows partially down even if it is raining.

Coleman Montana 6 Tent-

This tent is an inexpensive family tent that won’t provide very much standing room.  It is also a little sparse on interior space so if you have 6 people all of you might not be able to fit into it comfortably and your gear certainly won’t.  It is very easy to set up and comes with a tent rain fly.  However, you might want to be extra careful as some users have found it to be inadequate in keeping the rain out.  Overall, it’s a tent that will work well if you know you will be camping somewhere it’s dry and conditions are mild.  It is definitely a 3 season tent.

Coleman Evanston 6 Tent-

This is another Coleman tent that is great for beginning campers.  However, it probably won’t let you sleep up to 6 people.  It’s probably better used as a 4 man tent.  It is extremely set up with just 2 fiberglass tent poles.  Unfortunately this doesn’t come with the tent light that the Coleman Sundome one has.  The fabric is a little thin though so you will need to be careful when pushing the tent poles through so that you don’t tear it at all. 

Kelty Yellowstone 6 Person Tent-

Every company that makes tents seems to have their own patented design to keep out water seepage.  Kelty is similar and this tent is made with the ArcEdge design to help any water from getting into your tent.  This system raises the tent floor up a little bit off the ground which helps the water not get inside through the floor and the seams where the walls meet.
This tent also comes with a lot of other features like interior pockets for storage, color coded tent poles, external guy points to help when you are camping in windy conditions and noiseless zipper pulls.  The noiseless zipper I think is a great benefit for a light sleeper.  As with most of the tents this 3 season tents space might be exaggerated when it comes to the amount of sleepers it fits, so you might want to just use it as a 4 man or 5 man tent.  This tents weight is about 17 pounds.

Cabela’s Westwind Deluxe Tent-

This tent is free standing design that utilizes 5 shock-corded fiberglass tent poles as its frame.  It is made of nylon taffeta and its seams are hot taped to prevent leakage from any rain you might face.  It has more vestibules to protect your gear better and multiple guy out points for stability in the wind.  Like the Kelty Yellowstone the size that sleeps 6 people weighs about 17 pounds.  But you can also purchase it in two other sizes to sleep 4 or 8 people, so if you need space for 6 people consider getting the 8 man tent.
