Oprah’s Pop Up Camper Camping Adventure, Pt. 2

Having only catched the end of the 1st episode of Oprah’s Big Camping Adventure in Yosemite National Park, which featured Oprah’s Pop Up Camper, I had to catch the second episode, which aired today. Watching the start of the episode was a little comical as Oprah tried to cook Sea Bass and Rosemary Potatoes over the campfire, they didn’t know that the most common foods to cook over a campfire was “pancakes and baked beans.” They also played a trivia game while camping called, “Hunting, Fishing and Camping Trivia,” which is a great way to learn some interesting facts about camping. This might be a great activity idea for those of you camping with kids. They were then visited by some of their “neighbors” who assured them that… Continue reading

Why Large Camping Tents and Cabin Tents Are The Perfect Way To Ride Out A Storm

In today’s world it seems that “minimalizing” is what we should all be doing and in many cases this is probably true. With camping tents and backpackers this might be true; you don’t want to hike up a mountain with a 70lb cabin tent on your back!  However, a lot of campers just enjoy car camping. They can drive up to their campsite, pull out all of their gear without having to hike very far to their site. So the question is, are smaller or larger camping tents better when you don’t have to carry your tent very far?
My answer is that a larger tent, especially something like a cabin tent with multiple rooms like the Coleman Vacationer, can have a lot more benefits than the… Continue reading

Cabin Tents, Air Mattresses, Tent Fans: How to Feel More at Home in Your Family Camping Tent

Camping really is a great way to spend time with the family and is a very affordable option for a family vacation. You don’t need to worry about getting a hotel room, or flying or driving very far because you can camp close to home. The problem with tent camping is that for people who aren’t big fans of the outdoors is that you have to sleep outside on the ground.

The thought of sleeping outside on the ground can make some people cringe. For those of you who feel that way I completely understand. I have woken up a few times in the middle of the night uncomfortable and with rocks poking me in the back.

But you don’t have to be uncomfortable; you can make your… Continue reading

3 Occasions You Need a 3 Man Tent Instead of a 2 Man Tent

A camping trip for just a couple of people is a great way to get away from mundane everyday life.  However, space in tents can be very limited. That is why you should consider getting a 3 man tent instead of a 2 man tent. They are a great option and usually are about the same price.  The one difference is how much room it’s going to provide which is often important.  Here are three times you should consider getting a 3 man tent.

1.  You are tall or weigh more than the average person.  Sure 2 people can fit inside but can any of your stuff or your feet even?   Also, you don’t know what the standard they are comparing measurements to.   They… Continue reading

Tent Poles: The Frame of the Tent

There are many things to understand when purchasing cheap tents.  One of them is the structure and what keeps them together.  Tent Poles are very important parts of a tent that keep it standing and in place.  The entire integrity of the structure can depend on these two things.  You are going to have a lot of options to consider in finding a tent that meets your needs and understanding more about what keeps your tent standing will help you find a tent that will last longer under the conditions you will be using it in.
Tent poles are the framework for your tent.  You attach the body of the tent and all of the the tent material to the poles and this gives your tent its shape.  Picture… Continue reading

Why Cabin Tents Make Great Family Tents

Being able to spend time outdoors with your family is a great way to build bonds that you can’t get in any other way.  Family cabin tents are great options for families wanting to share the outdoors together. They tend to be much larger than most tents and have bigger doorways, more windows and sometimes screened in porches.  The windows, doorways and porches make a huge difference in helping to create good ventilation within the tent walls.  The biggest benefit of cabin tents is that they are designed like a little cabin or home.  Think back to the 1800’s to the small houses families lived in.  They were no where near spacious compared to today’s standards but families managed to live in these small structures.  This is exactly… Continue reading

When should you not buy cheap tents?

Cheaptentssite’s main goal is to help keep you educated on what makes a quality camping tent.  We also want to help you find one with those features at a good price.  The hope is that you won’t buy a cheap tent that is poorly constructed just because the price is enticing.  I often find when I buy something that is really cheap, just because of it’s price, it ends up breaking after and sometimes during the first use.  This results in me having to go out and buy whatever it was all over again. Since I’ve learned my lesson, the next time I buy it I make sure I get a better price and better quality. In the end I spend more money than I would have if I had just found something that… Continue reading

Terms You Should Know When Buying A Camping Tent

Buying cheap tents isn’t always as easy as it sounds.  You want to make sure you understand the basic parts of a camping tent and how they affect you.  Here are just a few terms to get you started.

Backpacking Tent-  People who know they will be doing a lot of hiking and backpacking want a lighter tent.  They don’t want to be lugging around a 40 pound tent on long hikes.  So they prefer something ultralight that will provide some privacy and protect them from the elements.  These are usually made smaller than other tents.  So buying only a two man for two people could be very snug!  Unless you don’t mind opting for a three man tent or one higher than the amount of… Continue reading

Canvas Tents, Polyester Tents and Nylon Tents, What’s the Difference?

When you are shopping for cheap tents it is important to understand the type of materials tents will be made out of because this will affect many aspects of your camping experience and how long your tent will last.   Different materials have different pros and cons associated with them.  If you have ever wondered about what a camping tent is made out of and how it affects your tent, just think about your wardrobe for a second.  I’m sure you can tell the difference between wearing a cotton shirt and other materials.  Many athlete’s today, particularly golfers, like to wear shirts that are not 100% cotton because it doesn’t  allow their body to cool down enough trapping the sweat.  Make sure when you are finding the perfect camping tent… Continue reading

Difference Between 3 Season Tents and 4 Season Tents

If you don’t camp a lot and only plan on using a tent a couple of times a year this is one category that can save you some money with.   Even if you do not save any money you need to know about these type of tents if you are camping in winter conditions.  That factor is when and where you are camping and what the climate and weather will be like.  Aside by being categorized by how many people a tent sleeps (ie: 1 man tent, 3 man tent) tents are also defined by how many seasons they are suitable for like: 3 season and 4 season. However, most will be either 3 season tents or 4 season tents.  Basically what this means is that a 3 season tent will be acceptable in pretty much all weather conditions with the… Continue reading

Questions To Ask When Looking for Cheap Tents For Camping

Tents are a basic and important part of the camping experience and the outdoor life.  Although they are not completely necessary they can make a camping experience much more comfortable and allow privacy in busy campsites.  On one backpacking trip I learned just how much I valued tents and the shelter they provide.  The group I was with decided we didn’t need a tent so that our backpacks could be lighter.  It is something we ended up regretting when we woke up with a bear standing over us!  I’ve also camped in wet and rainy weather and was happy to have something keeping the water out.

The number one concern for most campers is finding cheap tents or in, other words, a high quality tent at a low price.  … Continue reading
