Camping is a great affordable family vacation.  Unfortunately, most tents don’t accommodate lots of people very well and if you are going camping with your family you will want a large camping tent to make sure space isn’t too cramped. Cabin tents help provide that extra space, and many of them will have multiple rooms that you can use as extra sleeping space, a place to store your camping gear or as a living room.  Here are 5 cheap tents that are large cabin tents that will help your family enjoy the great outdoors.

Additional Notes: While it advertises good ventilation and air circulation some users of the tent have complained of poor circulation.  However, it is fairly simple to set up.   This 2 room cabin tent is huge and offers plenty of space for you and your family.  You shouldn’t have a problem with space.

Additional Notes: Wenzel tents are almost always affordable.  If you’re on a tight budget look into these tents.  For the Wenzel Big Bend space will be an issue if you are looking for a large tent.  This isn’t going to fit a lot of people.  Five might be pushing it.  If you plan on bringing a lot of people or gear this isn’t going to be the best option.  However, if you are just looking for a 2 room tent it might do the trick.

3. Swiss Gear St. Alban Family Dome Tent

Additional Notes: This tent comes with a shaded canopy as an added bonus. It’s a great way to get out of the sun.  If you are looking for more than one room this isn’t going to be the tent for you.

Additional Notes: If you decide you want this Texsport tent make sure you shop around for the best prices.  I have seen quite a discrepancy at different places.  Amazon.com marketplace has had the best prices I have seen but they are sometimes out of stock.

5. Columbia Cougar Flats II Family Camping Dome Tent

  • Sleep Capacity: 6-10

  • Weight: 54 lbs!!
  • Size: 15x10feet
  • Ventilation:
    Windows: 2 Bay Windows
  • Weather Resistant Features: 800mm Rain fly, seams are factory sealed but comes with its own tube of seam sealer.  They recommend sealing the seams again before using.
  • ***Yes, I realize this isn’t exactly in the cheap category.  However, it has great reviews and people really seem to like it so I felt it needed to be on this list.  If you can afford something that will be durable and you will use over many years this is a wonderful option.***

Additional Notes:  This is like a car that has all the upgrades.  It has a gear loft and cupholders!  The only real complaint I have heard about this this Columbia cabin tent is the size and location of the awning.  It will take about 30 minutes to set up but comes with a color coded system to make it easier.  This is a very heavy tent you would not want to use it unless you can drive up to your campsite and have a couple of people to handle the weight, although it does come with a wheeled bag to make it easier for transporting.

Some Other Cabin Tent Options:

  • The Coleman Weathermaster series of tents is another great option for families and is made by Coleman.  These are very durable and great for most conditions.  
  • The Swiss Gear Montreaux 10 person tent is also a large cabin tent that will meet most people’s needs.
